HUGHIE Morrison is excited by the prospect of Bella Ragazza and Belated Breath returning to his East Ilsley stables next year after the flying fillies added to successful campaigns with notable victories.

Bella Ragazza battled back to pip Move Swiftly by a neck and claim the £31,125 first prize in the British EBF Breeders’ Fillies’ Series Mile Handicap at Newmarket under Fran Berry.

Morrison said of his three-time winner: “She is a really tough filly. I think she appreciated the ground a lot and looks like she will get further, which is exciting. She can only improve next year, so it’s onwards and upwards.”

Morrison also has high hopes for Belated Breath following her victory in the six-furlong handicap final of the Jockey Club Grassroots Sprint Distance Series at Nottingham.

The three-year-old made much of the running in the hands of Oisin Murphy before holding off Case Key by a neck in a race which saw Magic Pulse controversially withdrawn in error.

Morrison said: “She has done nothing but improve and she has won four races, which is tricky to do with a filly.”

Helvetian notched his first win this year for West Ilsley trainer Mick Channon with a neck victory in a six-furlong handicap at Salisbury under Andrea Atzeni.

Elsewhere, Blewbury trainer Noel Williams got off the mark for the National Hunt season when Percy Prosecco made a winning debut in a two-mile juvenile hurdle at Huntingdon.

A winner on the Flat at Windsor in August, the 4-1 chance came home six lengths clear of The Lincoln Lawyer with Wayne Hutchinson on board.
