RACING: Wantage trainer Henry Candy’s unswerving faith in Limato was rewarded when his stable star posted back-to-back wins in the Godolphin Stud And Stable Staff Awards Challenge Stakes at Newmarket.

The dual Group 1 winner had disappointed in the first half of this campaign, before confidence-boosting Listed-race wins at Newmarket and York.

And the six-year-old gelding completed his hat-trick by a length and a quarter from Zonderland to take his career earnings to more than £1.3m.

Candy said: “I always had great faith in him and his attitude is fantastic. He loves that firm ground.”

TABLE TENNIS: James Lovelock and Neil Cartwright recorded maximums in Marlborough Hawks’s 7-3 win over Drayton Devils in the Didcot & District League.
