ATHLETICS: James Bolton battles through rain to win gold at Hanney 5

The Woodstock Harriers runner took the vet 45 title in an event which doubled up as the five-mile race in the Oxfordshire Road Race Championships.

Bolton triumphed in 27mins 21secs, more than 40 seconds ahead of second-placed Paul Hughes, of Abingdon, who was the top senior male athlete ahead of Headington’s Julien Lhomme.

Eynsham duo Robert Storey (vet 50) and Benedict Pollard (vet 40) triumphed, with Headington’s Mark Jones (vet 55) also victorious.

Abingdon’s Chloe Ridewood was the first female home in 32nd overall, clinching the junior title, with clubmate Vicki Richardson the top senior woman.

White Horse Harrier Clare Mowforth (vet 35) led the way in her age category, with Eynsham duo Kate Allred and Katherine Bates clinching the vet 45 and 55 honours respectively.

Elsewhere, Calum Steer impressed when finishing fourth in the first round of the Chiltern Cross Country League at Horspath.

The Abingdon AC member led the way out of the Division 2 runners and was the top under 20.

Will Gardner, who competes for Division 1 outfit Oxford City, was tenth overall.

Radley’s Quinn Miell-Ingram won the under 13 boys’ race, with City’s Freddie Jones ninth.

Abingdon’s Olivia Martin was second in the under 15 girls’ event, while Tilly Lainchbury, of Banbury Harriers, was tenth in the under 13 competition.
