ABINGDON teenagers Ed Scott Payne and Harry Baston-Hall impressed on international duty.

The duo represented Great Britain at a major European Under 17 competition in Grenoble, France – and the Abingdon Vale Fencing Club pair produced a superb set of results.

Scott Payne, ranked fourth nationally in his age group, breezed through to the direct elimination stage, easing past Italian and French rivals before finishing in a respectable 21st.

After a slow start, Baston-Hall, No 2 in Britain, grew through the competition.

On his way to 16th place he knocked out the fifth seed, from Colombia, and then went on to defeat Swiss and Spanish opponents.

The results were a huge boost for the newly-formed Abingdon Vale club, who meet on Wednesday evenings at Larkmead School.
