RACING: Sparsholt trainer Harry Whittington may send Saint Calvados back to Ireland for the Ladbrokes Dublin Chase at Leopardstown on February 2.

The six-year-old landed the Grade 3 Poplar Square Chase at Naas on his seasonal reappearance, before finishing third to Altior in the Betfair Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown.

Whittington said: “Saint Calvados has an entry in the Dublin Chase, and he will be in what was the Game Spirit at Newbury. He will run in one of those two races - we just hope we get some rain between now and then.

"The Dublin Chase is of definite interest, after they have upgraded it to a Grade 1, and it is definitely worth a look at.”

“He will probably run in the Champion Chase afterwards - even though that is against Altior - and that might be it then for the season. But we will take each race as it comes.”

Meanwhile, Whittington saddled Khage to make virtually all the running for a six-lengths success in an extended two-mile maiden hurdle at Taunton under Gavin Sheehan.

The Sparsholt handler said: “He has got plenty of ability and talent. He will go novice chasing next season and we will campaign him quietly and not over-face him this season.”

West Ilsley trainer Mick Channon notched his first Flat winner of 2019 when Dancing Jo landed a mile handicap at Lingfield by a neck with Charlie Bishop on board.

Captain Ryan posted his second course-and-distance win at Wolverhampton in the space of six days for Geoffrey Deacon’s Compton yard with victory in a five-furlong handicap under Kieran O’Neill.

MOTORSPORT: Mitch Evans finished ninth for the Grove-based Panasonic Jaguar Racing team in the latest round of the FIA Formula E Championship in Marrakesh, Morocco.

Teammate Nelson Piquet Jnr came 14th.

The next round is in Santiago, Chile, on January 26.
