RACING: Coneygree could have his next start in the Betfair Denman Chase at Newbury on February 9.

The 12-year-old, trained by Mark Bradstock at Letcombe Bassett, near Wantage, made much of the running in the 32Red King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day before suffering an over-reach.

But connections took encouragement from his performance and now the Grade 2 three-mile event is under consideration.

Bradstock’s wife and assistant, Sara, said: “I think what he proved at Kempton was that if he had not over-reached he would have finished third, so that would have been a great run.

“He did it when he made a mistake. He was ten lengths in front of Native River at that stage and he finished third, so he only had to grind on, which he always does.

”The Denman would be a possibility. We will just have to see. He will not run unless everything is perfect.”

“He will always be a hero and we would like to have a good end of season and win a couple of races before he retires.”
