GEORGIA Timms’s second-half header gave Oxford United their best result of the FA Women’s National League campaign.

The 66th-minute effort was the only goal of the game at Court Place Farm, as Southern Premier Division leaders Chichester City were beaten.

Cat Beaver came close to an early opener, but her header from Ellie Noble’s free-kick rebounded to safety off the woodwork.

U’s goalkeeper Lucy Thomas had to be alert during a spell of Chichester pressure midway through the half.

The visitors also started the second half on top, Thomas again called into action, this time to keep out Sara Tubby.

Molly Clark then grazed the U’s crossbar from 30 yards, but United hit back to break the deadlock on 66 minutes.

Goalkeeper Lauren Dolbear came and missed Noble’s corner, allowing Timms to head into the net.

Emily Allen fired a chance for a second goal wide, but the hosts’ efforts in the latter stages were on preserving their lead.

They had to survive several nervous moments, but hung on to claim the points.

The U’s are sixth in the table, but they can climb as high as third on Wednesday with a win against MK Dons Ladies at Stadium MK.

They host Carterton Town Ladies on Sunday in the Oxfordshire FA County Cup semi-finals.
