SAXTON Rovers are North Berks League Division 1 champions, writes RICHARD UNDERWOOD.

The runaway leaders wrapped up the title without even being in league action.

That was because second-placed Long Wittenham were held to a 1-1 draw by Westminster and the only other team who could catch Saxton,

fifth-placed Lambourn Sports, lost 4-1 at Steventon.

Doubles from Alan Harvey and Lewis Camm gave Steventon the points, with Lambourn replying through Steve Leighfield.

At Long Wittenham, Callum Bowler netted for the hosts, with James Bishop replying for Westminster.

Saxton, meanwhile, had double reason to celebrate after booking their place in the semi-finals of the North Berks Charity Shield with a 5-1 victory over Division 2 side Watlington Town.

Steve Outen was sent off for Watlington when he brought down Ollie Nadin on the edge of the box, and moments later, Saxton went in front from the penalty spot as Tom Stanley fired home.

Darren Outen levelled for the visitors, but three goals in the last five minutes of the half from Stanley, Nadin and Louis Bloomfield gave Saxton a 4-1 interval lead.

Frankie Haines extended the advantage after the break, before the home side’s Patrick Mannix was sent off for a foul on Darren Outen.

In Division 2, Cholsey United came away from Blewbury with a 4-2 win thanks to goals from Steve Hawes, John Chapman, Camden Laver and Martin Dawson.

Arran Gray and Nathan Hill hit back for the home side.

Marcham went goal crazy in Division 3, hammering visitors Hanney 66 Club 14-2.

Tom Graham grabbed a

six-goal haul, with Stuart Armstrong and Lewis Hastings adding hat-tricks.

Dan Thomas scored the other two goals, with Hanney replying through Jack Slight and William Smyth.
