OXFORD United will be going all out to end their relegation fears for good with a victory at Walsall today, says Rob Dickie.

A run of three straight wins has taken them to 49 points in Sky Bet League One.

With six games remaining the chances of being dragged back into trouble are remote, but one more good result is needed to make sure.

No team has been relegated with 52 points in the third tier during the last 25 years – and the U’s can hit that mark today.

“That’s our main focus,” Dickie said. “I’d say we need one more win.

“You’d think 52 points (would be safe), because there’s so many teams down there. Most weeks a couple of the teams will be playing each other, so not everyone can pick up points.

“We’ve not fallen short of any hard work this week. It’s all been the same, we’ve not been kidding ourselves into thinking we can put our feet up.

“We’re all really focused on the game and hopefully it’s the same outcome.”

It is more than six years since United last won four straight league games in the same season, but despite confidence being high, they know what awaits them this afternoon.

Walsall have lost their last four games – all against promotion contenders – to slip into the bottom four on goal difference.

Having been in a similar position last month, Dickie is prepared and believes United just need to stick to what has made them successful of late.

He said: “It will be a tough game. We know when you’re fighting for your lives you do anything you can to get a result.”

“But we’ve been doing very well defensively as a team, keeping clean sheets or only conceding the one goal, which gives you a chance in games.”

Gavin Whyte is expected to be available after a thigh injury, while Jerome Sinclair will travel providing he came through training yesterday.

Walsall’s only injuries are to long-term absentees Adam Chambers, Kory Roberts and Maz Kouhyar.
