CANICE Carroll has been selected in the Republic of Ireland’s under 21 squad for the first time.

The 20-year-old from Kidlington, who left Oxford United to join Brentford last August, has been named in a 22-man group for the prestigious Toulon Tournament in France next month.

Carroll had previously played for his country at under 17, 18 and 19 levels.

He is yet to make his first-team debut for Brentford and spent the second half of last season on loan at Swindon Town.

It is the first time Ireland have played at the competition since 2002 and they are in a group alongside Bahrain, China and Mexico.
