OXFORD United deserved to take something from their trip to Bloomfield Road, according to Blackpool boss Simon Grayson.

The Tangerines extended their winning start to the Sky Bet League One season with a 2-1 victory over the U’s.

But they did it by hanging on amid an onslaught from the visitors, who hit the woodwork twice and forced goalkeeper Jak Alnwick into several good saves.

Grayson gave a frank assessment of the game and admitted Karl Robinson’s side were unfortunate to come away empty-handed..

He said: “We’ve won a game which I’m delighted about.

“When I analyse it I think we were second best in all departments. I thought we were two or three yards off the pace.

“They’re a good team and if you don’t stop them by getting tight they can hurt you.

“We just didn’t seem to have that spark about us, but we ground out a result to get three points.

“The stats will say they’ve had loads more shots and possession, but the only one I’m interested in the one that says we’ve won the game.

“I’m sure Karl will be disappointed they’ve not got anything out of the game because I think they deserved to get something.”

He added: “I think there were decisions where both teams will maybe look back on and think they were a bit controversial.

“I think we could have had another penalty in the second half, but really we’ve got something out of the game that we probably didn’t deserve to.”
