OXFORD City Stars have pounced to bring back Mike Whillock for this season.

The forward was due to move abroad, but a change of plans saw him become available.

Whillock has spent several seasons at Oxpens, while he also knows head coach Simon Anderson after playing for him at Svenstaviks in Sweden.

Anderson said: “Mike signing also gives us a little bit of competition for spots in our roster and will help us when we run into injuries or suspension trouble.

“Mike was one of my best players at the beginning of last season in Sweden.

“He has always had that hard-working gritty side to his game and in Sweden he added a little scoring touch and always worked hard on his skills daily.

“I am looking for Mike to bring that form in a Stars uniform and if he does, he is capable of being one of the top guys not only in our team, but the league.”

Whillock, 26, said: “It’s always an honour to play for Oxford and looking at the roster I’m excited to see it all come together starting next week in training.

“We have a passionate core of local guys which always rubs off on the players coming into the club.

“We will be fighting hard every day in this league, which suits us down to the ground.

“I’m looking forward to getting to work with the boys.”
