JAMES Henry hopes his midweek penalties can kick-start his form in front of goal.

The midfielder was Oxford United’s top scorer last term with 15 and shared the honour with Wes Thomas two seasons ago.

But he had scored just once since January before Tuesday night, where he kept cool to convert a 94th-minute spot kick.

After scoring again in the shoot-out, Henry is looking to get moving again.

“I’ve had a little dry patch,” he said. “I’ve tried my best this season, the crossbar kept one out and the goalie saved another.

“It’s nice to get up and running and hopefully I can kick on from here.”

The 30-year-old’s goalscoring feats have been crucial since joining in 2017 and an injury to striker Matty Taylor increases the need for midfielders to chip in.

In Taylor’s absence Jamie Mackie will lead the line against Coventry City tomorrow while the veteran is not prolific, Henry believes he can be key.

He said: “ Jamie’s a great striker who brings the three behind him into play all the time.

“We just need to make sure we run off him, because he’s such a handful that we need to be gambling.

“He doesn’t always win the flick but he stops the defender winning it and the ball goes in behind so we can get teams on the back foot.”

One player to come back from injury this week was Shandon Baptiste.

And Henry was impressed on the midfielder’s return after seven months out.

He said: “Shandon did brilliantly.

“You can see the talent the boy’s got and off the pitch he’s an unbelievable guy.

“He will keep getting stronger and be a big bonus for us.”
