MORE than 8,000 people were treated to a six-goal thriller between Oxford United and Coventry City this afternoon - making a long trip worthwhile for one group of fans.

The U's came back from 2-0 down in the second half to draw level with the Sky Blues, only for Callum O'Hare to put the visitors ahead in stoppage time.

But Fankaty Dabo's 94th-minute own goal - his second of the match - ensured Karl Robinson's men grabbed a point to avoid a fourth consecutive league defeat.

It was an entertaining match for the neutral and vindicated the decision of Norwegians Frode Kolstad, Martin Budeng and their friends to take in their first United game.

Speaking to the Oxford Mail on Facebook Live after the final whistle, the pair felt the U's deserved all three points.

Mr Kolstad said: "There was an energy in the team all the way, I felt like they were pushing the opponent back but were unlucky.

"They were 2-0 down but they still kept pushing and pushing after the substitutes came on, especially the number 11 [Tariqe Fosu]. They had a great chance early on too and should have scored more goals."

Mr Budeng added: "They had a decent first half, but the second half was really great. They really did well to come back from that."

As well as name-checking Fosu, the duo, from Oslo, were impressed by Jamie Mackie, who began the home side's comeback with a curling effort on 65 minutes.

They also thought United's centre backs, Rob Dickie and Elliott Moore, carried the ball out of defence well.

But Mr Kolstad reserved special praise for the atmosphere inside the Kassam Stadium and revealed the U's may have some new fans from more than 700 miles away.

He said: "There was a lot of excitement, especially when United scored. You feel part of it."

The 48-year-old added:"It's a long trip, but if I come over again then I'm going to watch more games."
