KARL Robinson was happy with Oxford United's performance, but described not beating Coventry City in their 3-3 draw as "gut-wrenching".

It would have been even worse for the U's head coach without a 94th-minute equaliser from Fankaty Dabo.

The City defender had already put through his own net once, making it 2-2 in the 85th minute.

That completed the hosts' comeback from 2-0 down, but Callum O'Hare restored the visitors' lead in stoppage-time before Dabo's even later intervention.

The rollercoaster afternoon left Robinson with mixed emotions after a rollercoaster afternoon, but was in no doubt about the overriding feeling.

"I’m happy," he said. "How could I not be?

"There are so many different things I can thank the players for.

"We missed chances in the first half and people will say it’s two own goals, but we asked that question.

"I said at the end of last season we didn’t put enough balls in the box to ask questions of the defenders.

"We did that, but equally when that happens we need players running into the box to put them under that pressure.

"We had more people in the box today than ever before, more crosses going in and it’s a real gut-wrenching feeling that we’ve only come away with only one point after another fantastic performance.

"We were the better team. Their staff and their players will agree, Oxford United should have won today."

Robinson was though critical of the officials.

He felt a City player was offside in the build-up to their first goal and Ben Woodburn was fouled before the visitors broke for their second.

But the strongest argument came over the late third goal.

Robinson said: "The guy who was stood here in what looked like an official’s uniform is looking down the barrel at something that went off their player.

"Our players switch off because it’s clearly our ball.

"Even their players don’t ask for it.

"Their guy goes to leave it to waste time, but the second he sees it given he throws it, they break and we’re out of position stupidly again to concede."
