EDDIE Pepperell had an opening round to forget at Wentworth today.
The Abingdon golfer shot a seven-over-par 79 at the BMW PGA Championship, leaving him bottom of the leaderboard at the conclusion of his round.
The 28-year-old got off to a poor start with a bogey on the opening hole.
But he responded with a superb eagle at the par-five fourth.
However, that was as good as it got.
Three bogeys in a row saw him slip back down the standings, before another dropped shot at the ninth saw him reach the turn at three over.
A birdie at the 12th gave him some hope of salvaging his round.
But a dropped shot at 15 was soon followed by a disastrous triple-bogey eight at the 17th.
His disappointing day was sealed with another bogey at the 18th and he must tomorrow produce a superb round just to give him a chance of making the cut.
