OXFORD United will know much more about their credentials as play-off challengers after the next two games, says goalkeeper Simon Eastwood.

Karl Robinson’s men are flying high after scoring 16 unanswered goals in the last five matches.

The run has taken them past West Ham United in the Carabao Cup and collect ten points in Sky Bet League One.

That haul has taken them up to tenth in the table, boosting hopes they can become a contender for a top-six spot.

But Eastwood is not getting carried away and sees today’s visit to Accrington Stanley and next weekend’s home clash with Doncaster Rovers as litmus tests for their long-term ambitions.

He said: “You know Accrington will be a battle and then we’ve got a really tough one at home to Doncaster.

“I think these next two games will be a gauge of where we’re really at.

“We’re on a great run, I think everybody is shocked by it.

“I’ll be honest I am as well, we’re scoring goals at will and not conceding.

“People talk about riding a wave and you just want to keep on it as long as you can to get as many points as you can.”

He added: “I’d rather beat Accrington than West Ham, to be honest.

“The league is where we want to be and really try to give it a push.

“We’re not far off it now, we realistically could be pushing for the play-offs.”

A sixth successive clean sheet would equal United’s record in the Football League, set in 1964.

Eastwood has had some quiet games in the sequence, a far cry from the opening month of the season where he was powerless to stop them leaking goals regularly.

He said: “It feels like our luck has changed.

“At the start of the season it felt like every shot was going in somehow.

“It seems like it’s gone the other way, everything we’re hitting is going in – I know how it feels for the keepers who are playing against Oxford at the moment.”

United’s red-hot form in the last fortnight has garnered them plenty of praise.

And midfielder Alex Gorrin knows that will make them a target for opponents – which makes the task of extending the streak tougher.

He said: “Of course, people coming up against us will know they need to be on their game, because we are.

“It’s a good challenge for us as well and we’re ready for it.

“We’re full of confidence and hopefully we can kick on.”
