Ahead of each of United's games this season, we are looking back at memorable matches against their next opponents.

August 3, 2013: Portsmouth 1, Oxford United 4

OXFORD United stunned Portsmouth in front of a packed Fratton Park to start the Sky Bet League Two season in style.

Alfie Potter scored twice and set up two goals for Deane Smalley as the U’s came from behind to thrash their hosts, who had Johnny Ertl sent off.

Portsmouth controlled the early exchanges and went ahead through Patrick Agyemang’s powerful 24th-minute header.

The U’s were not deterred and turned the contest on its head with two goals in four minutes.

Potter beat Dan Butler and crossed for Smalley, who turned to fire home and send the 2,500 travelling fans into a frenzy.

It soon got better, as the striker outmuscled Yassin Moutaouakil and found Sean Rigg, who squared for Potter to score from 12 yards.

After going in a goal up at half-time, United went a man up just before the hour mark.

Ertl was given a straight red when Danny Rose was left in a heap following an aerial challenge and the U’s took advantage.

Rigg and Smalley were involved again, setting up Potter to finish at the near post.

The winger turned provider on 71 minutes, as he crossed for Smalley to steer home.
