ROB Hall and Tyler Goodrham had a night to savour for different reasons as Oxford United’s stellar run continued.

There was nothing at stake in the Leasing.com Trophy tie at Crawley Town, but Karl Robinson’s side, who had already qualified, produced a

display of excellence to run out 4-1 winners and make it 14 games unbeaten.

Hall led the way with a hat-trick, while Goodrham broke Graham Atkinson’s record as the club’s youngest ever player.

The mark had stood for six decades, but at 16 years and 98 days the midfielder claimed a slice of U’s history.

“I imagine I’ll be telling my grandkids stories about this,” he said.

“There’s not a chance I’ll sleep tonight.

“I couldn’t really describe what was going on in my mind, it was all emotions.

“I saw my family in the stand when I was warming up and that filled me with joy and nerves.

“I’m doing what I love, so I’m going to be a bit nervous doing it.”

The 14-minute appearance provided an extra present for father Simon, who was watching on.

Goodrham said: “There’s usually a treat on his birthday. Last year I scored a hat-trick for the under 16s and now it’s a debut.”

Hall’s first treble for United made it five goals in three appearances.

The second and third goals came from the penalty spot on a night where the visitors were awarded three spot-kicks.

Anthony Forde took the first, but to Hall’s relief the Irishman had been substituted at half-time.

He said: “Me and Fordey practise them all the time, so I was always confident he was going to stick it away.

“It was lucky he was off the pitch when the next two came, so I jumped straight on them.

“I’m buzzing and it was a good team effort.

“I thought we passed and moved well and the young lads who came on were excellent.”

It all added up to a night which left head coach Karl Robinson full of pride.

He said: “To see young players coming through means so much to me.

“It means more than winning sometimes, giving young people an opportunity.

“Seeing Hally as well, who has been out for so long and get a hat-trick and know what that means to him as well, so this doesn’t get any better.”
