WITNEY kept the pressure on the Women’s Hockey League Division 1 leaders with a 5-3 home win against Tulse Hill & Dulwich.

Katie Gatt and Sadie Lapper converted short corners early on and although the visitors halved the deficit with a set piece of their own, Helen Backhouse made it 3-1 by half-time.

Lapper completed her hat-trick after the break from two more short corners to keep third-placed Tulse Hill at bay.

The result kept the unbeaten side second in the table, but now with a seven-point advantage over third.

Oxford suffered their first defeat of the season, but stayed top of Division 2.

Kim Warman struck late on, but could not prevent a 2-1 defeat at Bournemouth.

Oxford Hawks drew a blank at Clifton Robinsons 2nd in the Investec Women’s Conference West.

The two sides began the day on the same points and nothing could separate them in the goalless draw.

Goalkeeper Millie Lane was named their player of the match, but her opposite number also excelled to keep the visitors out.

Hannah Fallon and Emma Stevenson were among those to be thwarted, as the points were shared.

Both teams were leapfrogged by Oxford University, who climbed to third after a 1-0 win at Basingstoke.

Oxford Hawks’ men slipped back into the bottom three of Division 1 South.

Jack Biggs was on target, but they were edged out 2-1 at leaders Southgate.

Oxford OBU’s winning start to the South League Premier Division 2 West was brought to an end by nearest challengers Staines.

Zum Akhter put them on the way to a ninth straight success when he opened the scoring after half-time.

But Staines hit back to earn a 1-1 draw which kept them just two points behind their hosts in the table.

Bas Marshall scored twice as Oxford Hawks 2nd won 5-2 at Witney in MBBO Regional 1.

Freddie Smith, Ed Wilkinson and Charlie Winder also got on the scoresheet in a clash where the visitors were always in control.

Jacob Deacon scored both goals for Witney, maintaining his strong recent run.
