Ahead of each of United's games this season, we are looking back at memorable matches against their next opponents.

September 17, 2016: MK Dons 0, Oxford United 0

ALMOST 4,000 Oxford United fans made the short journey to Buckinghamshire for the club’s first clash with Milton Keynes Dons.

The huge U’s faithful was not rewarded with a victory, but did see Michael Appleton’s men register their first away point of the season in Sky Bet League One.

Dons striker Kieran Agard twice went close for Karl Robinson’s men in the opening stages, but United’s largest away following in more than a decade almost had a goal to celebrate with 12 minutes played.

Wes Thomas was first to Liam Sercombe’s low cross, but his effort was smothered by home keeper David Martin.

The U’s forward was forced off as a result of the challenge and the visitors found themselves under pressure for the rest of the half.

This continued after the break, until Chris Maguire saw a shot blocked after Martin handled a back pass in the penalty area.

Appleton’s side pressed for a winner, with John Lundstram fizzing a shot wide and Marvin Johnson and Sercombe having efforts saved.

But United almost left Stadium:MK with nothing.

In stoppage time, Agard turned away from Charlie Raglan and streaked clear, only to be denied by Simon Eastwood.
