MILLIE Couzens won the junior women’s race at the National Cyclocross Championships in Shrewsbury.

The Bicester teenager, riding for PH-Mas/Paul Milne Cycles, produced an impressive display to take the crown.

Drayton’s Maddie Wadsworth finished fourth.

Elsewhere, Fran Whyte endured an afternoon to forget in the elite women’s race.

The Bicester Triathlon Club member lined up fifth on the grid and was up to second at the first corner, but her race unravelled before suffering a flat tyre at the furthest point from the pits.

Whyte, who finished as the 17th Vet, said: “I had a bad race due to my own poor decision making.

"The flat tyre was just the icing on the cake.”
