AFTER several seasons at opposite ends of the Football League, Oxford United and Portsmouth have become familiar foes in recent years.

We looked back at the U’s last five trips to the south coast.

NOVEMBER 2, 2019: POMPEY 1, OXFORD UTD 1

The depleted visitors’ 11-match unbeaten run looked in danger when Gareth Evans scored from the spot early in the second half.

But the U’s battled on and were rewarded in the 91st minute, when Matty Taylor converted James Henry’s excellent cross.

AUGUST 18, 2018: POMPEY 4, OXFORD UTD 1

A chastening afternoon left Karl Robinson’s side pointless after three Sky Bet League One games.

U’s keeper Jonathan Mitchell saved Evans’s first-half penalty, but the midfielder finally broke the deadlock three minutes after the break.

Two Jamal Lowe strikes and a Rob Dickie own goal put the hosts out of sight, while Jack Whatmough put through his own net for United’s consolation.

MARCH 25, 2018: POMPEY 3, OXFORD UTD 0

Robinson’s first game in charge will always be remembered for Alex Mowatt.

The U’s midfielder missed a second-half penalty and was sent off for striking Nathan Thompson in the face seconds later.

Kal Naismith had put Pompey ahead, before Brett Pitman’s double sealed victory.

JANUARY 23, 2016: POMPEY 0, OXFORD UTD 1

Jordan Bowery struck the winner eight minutes into his U’s debut as Michael Appleton’s side continued their journey to automatic promotion.

The striker came off the bench to score from 25 yards and bag a priceless three points.

FEBRUARY 28, 2015: POMPEY 0, OXFORD UTD 0

United left Fratton Park happiest after holding in-form Pompey to ease their relegation fears.

Ryan Clarke made several good saves before the break, but the U’s stood firm to take a point.
