FORMER Oxford United striker John Aldridge has urged the class of 2019/20 to finish the job on the eve of their play-off semi-final second leg.

The Republic of Ireland international was part of Jim Smith's side which went from the Third Division to the top flight in two years during the 1980s.

And the 61-year-old is still keeping an eye on his former side, who host Portsmouth at the Kassam Stadium on Monday night.

With Friday's first leg finishing 1-1, the tie is in the balance and Aldridge posted a video with a message for the players.

He said: "I'd like to wish everyone the very best in the promotion push.

"The players, the staff and the great fans at Oxford - I was lucky to have back-to-back promotions in the 80s with the club.

"We had fantastic times and lads, it is great. It's brilliant, you will love it, so go and do it for yourselves, your family, the fans and the staff.

"I'll be rooting for you."
