THE 2020/21 EFL season will get under way on the weekend of September 12.
A start date for clubs in the Sky Bet Championship and Leagues One and Two was confirmed by the league this afternoon, with the campaign finishing on May 8 and 9, 2021.
It means Oxford United will be back in competitive league action less than nine weeks after their play-off final defeat to Wycombe Wanderers.
Next season's play-offs will revert back to the Spring Bank Holiday weekend at the end of May.
An EFL statement added: "Work is currently underway in respect of fixture scheduling and details will be announced in due course as to when full fixture lists for 2020/21 will be made available."
The start of the season is likely to come too early for fans to attend games, with the government planning to allow sports stadiums to operate with a reduced capacity from October.
