OXFORD United are reportedly showing interest in a second right back based north of the border.

Sean Clare is on the club's radar, according to the Daily Record, along with former Kilmarnock defender Stephen O'Donnell.

While the latter would not command a transfer fee after allowing his contract to run down, Clare is five years younger so would be more attractive from a potential re-sale value in the future.

The 23-year-old joined Hearts in 2018 from Sheffield Wednesday, but the Edinburgh club are thought to be willing to do a deal following their relegation from the Scottish Premiership.

Clare, who can also play in midfield, has experience of League One after spending a stint with Gillingham during the 2017/18 campaign.

U's boss Karl Robinson is keen on getting deals done before the salary cap vote tomorrow, which would put restrictions on his plans if approved.
