OXFORD United’s unexpected blank Saturday saw them fall a place to 13th in Sky Bet League One.

The U’s were one of just four teams not in action after their trip to Northampton Town was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch less than five hours before kick-off.

Of the sides below them at the start of the day, only Gillingham took advantage.

Steve Evans’ men triumphed 1-0 at Accrington Stanley to leapfrog United and move into the top 12, Kyle Dempsey scoring the only goal in first-half stoppage time.

Elsewhere, Blackpool are only below the U’s on goal difference after drawing 1-1 at second-placed Hull City.

Plymouth Argyle would have moved above United if they had beaten visitors Crewe Alexandra, but Ryan Lowe’s side were also held 1-1.

MK Dons were the only other team who could have leapfrogged the U’s, but they went down 3-0 at Peterborough United.

Looking up the table, the gap between United and the play-off places grew to eight points following Charlton Athletic’s 1-0 win at Bristol Rovers – who visit the Kassam Stadium next Saturday.

The U’s could fall further down the table before then, with nine games scheduled for Tuesday.
