THE only constant in this unique Sky Bet League One campaign is its unpredictability, says Karl Robinson.

Oxford United’s home game against Bristol Rovers tomorrow ends a 21-day break since their last outing in the third tier, after matches against Doncaster Rovers, Shrewsbury Town and Northampton Town were postponed.

But results have gone United’s way and they find themselves in a similar position to where they were after the 5-1 win at Burton Albion on January 2.

The U’s are 14th in the table, having been 12th following the victory at the Pirelli Stadium, and are only eight points short of the play-offs – with games in hand on many of the teams above them.

Karl Robinson: Oxford United cannot start slowly tomorrow

For head coach Robinson, this highlights how the 2020/21 campaign will continue to surprise.

He said: “That will certainly continue, it’s one thing we can be 100 per cent sure on.

“Having not played, we’ve only dropped two positions in three weeks.

“It shows you how well we were doing, we were on the coat-tails of so many teams.

“That gap looks a little bit more unachievable, but if we start winning games again we could be in a much better place.

“We have to win the games to put us in that position and we know how hard it’s going to be.

“It’s going to be a really difficult few weeks.”

If United avoid defeat against Rovers they will make it ten games unbeaten, while a victory would extend their winning run to six matches.

The U’s have picked up form after an inconsistent start to the campaign, although they were not helped by the October home fixtures against Crewe Alexandra and Swindon Town being postponed late in the day, the former on two occasions.

Alex Gorrin: Unbeaten run can be just the start

United have had four games called off in the last five weeks and the rearranged matches will add to their busy schedule.

Alex Gorrin knows the threat of more postponements only adds to the bizarre nature of the season.

The midfielder said: “This league’s always very competitive.

“Because we’re playing so many games, and with injuries and Covid cases, it’s very important that we really concentrate each game and go for it.

“Anyone can beat anyone.”

Rob Atkinson agreed, adding: “It’s been a very weird season.

“I’ve learned to not moan or complain and get my head down.

“It’s all you can do really.”
