THE celebrations after England’s win over Denmark on Wednesday night will live long in the memory.

I watched the game in East Oxford and at full-time people were spilling out on to the streets and cars were honking their horns, while the scenes inside Wembley Stadium looked even wilder.

The government is set to remove capacity limits inside sporting venues from July 19, ending 16 months of behind closed doors games and, at best, reduced crowds.

That will not seem too long when people look back on the pandemic, but for every fan who has been denied the chance to watch their team it has seemed like forever.

It feels like the supporters lucky enough to watch any of the England games at Wembley have celebrated each goal that little bit more as a result.

I fully expect it to be the same when Oxford United start their Sky Bet League One season at Cambridge United on August 7, with away fans hopefully allowed to travel too.

It will make that first U’s goal of the campaign extra special – a sign that football has returned to what it should be.
