JOFRA Archer forced Oxfordshire opener Tom Cosford to retire hurt during an entertaining 62-run win for Sussex at Hove.

The England paceman bowled six overs as he continued his recovery from elbow surgery and twice hit the batsman on the helmet.

Sussex, whose team included Oxon youngsters Harrison Ward and James Coles, posted 285/9 in the 50-over clash, with captain Tom Haines making a superb 105 from 122 balls.

He was supported by Australia international Travis Head, who made 55, while Max Mannering was the pick of the bowlers with 2/29.

Oxon reached 85/2 in reply, but were always behind the required run rate.

Henry Rossouw did his best to chase down the total with 93 off 81, but the visitors ended on 223/8.

Oxon get their three-day season up and running on Sunday, when they host Cheshire at Banbury in the NCCA Championship.
