OXFORD United can put a week of anger to good use against Wycombe Wanderers, says Steve Seddon.

The U’s have had seven days to stew over last weekend’s 3-1 defeat at AFC Wimbledon in Sky Bet League One.

They are back in action this afternoon when they host Wycombe (3pm), in the sides’ first meeting since the 2019/20 play-off final.

That defeat hurt United, but their main concern today is getting a reaction to a disappointing loss in south west London.

Seddon said: “It was very frustrating and the main thing is channelling that and using it to our advantage.

“We’ve got 40 games left, so it’s obviously something for us to learn from.

“I remember watching the play-off final, so I know what it means for this club and how much they want to win.

“The main thing is playing well and winning.”

Cameron Brannagan: I wanted to stay and be successful

The left back has not missed a minute of United’s opening six League One games of the season, helping the club to their best start under Karl Robinson.

Seddon has played in the U’s favoured 4-3-3 formation and a 4-4-2 diamond, while the personnel has changed too.

The summer signing has partnered Jordan Thorniley and Luke McNally on the left side of defence, while four teammates – Ryan Williams, Gavin Whyte, Nathan Holland and Dan Agyei – have been deployed in front of him on the left flank.

Seddon has had to be flexible, but the former Birmingham City man insists that has not been a problem.

He said: “I’m enjoying it, we’ve had some good results and hope it continues.

“All the boys are easy to play with and get on with.

“Players fit into the system very well, so it’s not too much of a change.

“They’re all fairly similar and know what they need to do.

“Everyone knows their jobs and I think that’s very important.”

United conceded their fifth and sixth set-piece goals of the campaign at Wimbledon, while they were again guilty of not taking chances.

But another worrying pattern reared its head, as the U’s failed to win after going ahead on the road for the third time in League One this season.

Karl Robinson: Play-off final has no relevance to Wycombe reunion

They have had four days on the training pitches as they attempt to put that right and Cameron Brannagan revealed the squad have shown the right attitude this week.

The midfielder said: “We’re frustrated from Saturday, so hopefully we can take all our frustration out on Wycombe.

“There’s arguments in 5-a-side, there’s people flying into each other.

“You need that, because it’s competitive and everyone wants to win.

“I feel that takes on to a Saturday.

“We were frustrated last Saturday, I feel we were off it – our finishing and a few set-pieces cost us and we need to sharpen up on that.

“We can only look forward to the next game and hopefully win.”
