KARL Robinson felt Oxford United showed they can mix it up in their 0-0 draw with Wycombe Wanderers.

The U’s showed plenty of fight against a side who posed a mental and physical test to claim their second clean sheet of the Sky Bet League One campaign.

It was a different type of display to United’s previous performances at the Kassam Stadium this season, keeping their heads as Wycombe looked to get under their skin.

And Robinson went as far as to say no U’s squad he has managed in his three-and-a-half years at the club would have come away with a draw.

United’s head coach said: “Today we put in a different type of performance.

“I don’t think any team I’ve had here would’ve got a point out of the game today.

“We do play good football, but we’re also a group of people who care.

“Whatever we have to win, we’ll do it.

“We didn’t get the result we wanted, but people will go away and say ‘wow, there’s a different side to Oxford that I didn’t know they had’.”

Wycombe were happy to slow the game down throughout, although they had the best chance of the first half, when Jack Stevens excellently tipped over from Sam Vokes.

But United, who enjoyed 67 per cent possession, came on strong after the break and created more openings as the match went on.

Robinson did not make a substitution until Sam Long and Nathan Holland replaced Mark Sykes and Anthony Forde in the 89th minute, but felt he did not need to.

The U's boss said: “Later on in the game they dropped really deep because our energy was incredible.

“I actually found it hard to make a substitution.

“It was just that elusive bit of quality in the final third that would be something you probably question.

“We believe in who we are, we believe in our style, but that’s not always going to work.

“Today we showed a reverse side of our DNA and that was really pleasing for me.”
