BANBURY United beat Didcot Town 5-3 on penalties in round one of the Pitching In Southern League Challenge Cup.

The Puritans went ahead on the half-hour mark, Theo Rowe curling home an impressive opener.

It looked like they would hold on until Josh Hedges finished an excellent move by cutting inside and finding the top corner with 16 minutes left.

The tie went to spot-kicks and Sam Barder fired Didcot's first penalty over the bar.

Banbury were clinical from 12 yards and scored five out of five, Aidan Hawtin sealing victory.

Elsewhere, Wantage Town also progressed with a 2-1 win over Kempston Rovers.

Mark Francis and Charlie Kille gave the Alfredians a two-goal lead, but their opponents pulled one back just before the break.

Kidlington host Thame United tonight, four days after the latter beat their Oxfordshire rivals 1-0 in Division 1 Central.
