THE vacant manager’s role at Oxford City is already attracting interest, says Justin Merritt.

David Oldfield left Court Place Farm for Vanarama National League club Weymouth this week, with first-team coaches Andy Ballard and Ross Jenkins in caretaker charge until a replacement is found.

The deadline for applications is February 4 and Merritt revealed he has received some early approaches.

City’s director of football told BBC Oxford: “There are some managers who have already made contact.

“They’re not managers in the local area, but I’ve had approaches from managers in posts at other clubs – some outside of our league and one that’s in our league.”

City are fourth in Vanarama National League South as they aim for a first win of 2022 at lowly Welling United tomorrow (3pm).

Meanwhile, Banbury United will seek to claim a tenth successive victory in Pitching In Southern League Premier Central when they host Redditch United.

The Puritans are 16 points clear at the top of the table.

Seventh-placed Thame United host Division 1 Central leaders Bedford Town, while North Leigh, in third, go to AFC Dunstable, the team below them.

Elsewhere, Didcot Town welcome Kempston Rovers, Kidlington are at Barton Rovers and Wantage Town visit Aylesbury United.
