I can’t wait to step out of the tunnel this afternoon and see a packed Kassam Stadium as we welcome Sheffield Wednesday.

The big crowds tend to bring out the best in the players and what better way to show what we can do after two disappointing results away from home?

I’ve watched the Lincoln and Wycombe games so many times and it is so frustrating because we played better than I thought at the time and could easily have got something out of both games.

But those matches are done and dusted, and we aren’t going to change the final scores.

So I watch them, I look at the shape, I look at the players, I look at my own performance, and then we move on to the next game.

Sheffield Wednesday were just about everyone’s favourites to bounce straight back into the Championship and they are still more than capable of achieving that this year.

They have an excellent squad, a fantastic manager and there is still almost half a season still to go.

They will probably be thinking that beating us will put them right in the mix, and we will be looking to get back on track with a win, so it sets the game up really nicely.

Team wise, we will just have to wait and see who is available because there were one or two knocks at Wycombe in a very fierce game that you could almost have mistaken for a derby.

We had a game on Tuesday afternoon where players who haven’t been involved recently got some game time and the attitude was spot on from everyone.

If you show the right attitude and train or play well in games like that, then the door will always be open.

Obviously there has been a lot of talk and speculation about players coming in this week and I am not going to deny that we have spoken to potential new signings.

I would imagine every manager in the Football League has talked to players this week because we are all looking for that new spark that can make all the difference in the second half of the season.

If we have managed to bring someone in over the last 24 hours then that’s great, if not then we will keep working and keep trying to strengthen next week.

I am trying to keep out of the talk about the new stadium; I can influence what happens on the pitch but not in council meetings so I leave that to the experts.

But for what it’s worth, I think the decision to wait a month and hold conversations with local residents was a positive, and something we believe should happen anyway.

We are in good shape as a football club and if we are to find a new home, then we want to get on with our neighbours and work with them to make sure everyone is happy.

As I said right at the start, there will be bumps on the journey, but there is a long way to go and the initial response has been incredibly supportive.

I’m told the last time the club tried to find a new ground it took 40 years; hopefully with the support of the whole city and county, we can move a lot quicker than that this time.
