CHINNOR’S women’s team are celebrating a successful maiden season.

The Kites have been crowned champions of NC 2 South West (North), completing their campaign with a 100 per cent record.

Formed during lockdown, the team is spearheaded by head coach Fran Ronan and coach Karl Crockford.

Despite the pandemic they successfully recruited up to 30 players, going on to win all nine of their league games, scoring 336 points and conceding just 60.

They also triumphed in all their friendly matches, including a notable victory over Henley who play in the Championship – three levels higher.

The Kites are now waiting on which league they will be placed in for the 2022/23 season.

The team’s progress follows the rapid development of girls rugby at the club, with more than 70 players now registered across Under 13s, 15s, 18s and senior women’s.

Their success was highlighted in February when all four teams played on the same day at home for the first time.

Starting with seven Under 13s in 2019, Chinnor can now field three age-group sides, with the Under 15s reaching the County Cup final this season and Under 18s winning the Bucks Invitational League Plate.

Their offering will expand to four age groups from Under 12 to 18.

Girls team admin, Lisa Fincken said: “We were really chuffed with how the recruitment went last summer and to retain all of our players was a big bonus.

“We had long periods without training and fixtures due to Covid, and it was touch and go as to what 2021/22 would look like, so for a first season for all the age groups it’s been brilliant.”
