OXFORD City are moving in the right direction – whether or not they achieve promotion this season.

That is the view of head coach Ross Jenkins as he prepares for tomorrow’s Vanarama National League South play-off semi-final at Dorking Wanderers.

Jenkins arrived at Court Place Farm in 2019 and has seen City go from a solid mid-table side to promotion challengers in the last two seasons.

The former Watford midfielder was part of the staff under previous managers Mark Jones and David Oldfield, before taking the top job in March after standing in following the latter’s departure to Weymouth.

Jenkins kept City on course for a top-seven finish and believes the club have the right foundations to keep improving.

He said: “The first season I came in under Mark Jones, we tweaked a few things and there was small progression there.

“When David Oldfield came in we had more progression.

“As long as we keep progressing in the right way, there’s no rush to get to where we need to be.

“We have a process in place and if we execute that process I’m sure we’ll get there.

“We’re not going to rush anything or try to force it, it has to happen naturally.

“Since I’ve been here we’ve moved forward and that’s all I can really say.

“If we can keep moving forward I think we’ll be okay but this is a big challenge for the club, myself, the players and everyone at Oxford City.

“We need to enjoy these moments, because if you don’t enjoy it then football’s a bit bleak.”

City’s off-pitch offering is also flourishing, while last November the club announced plans to build a new stand at the east end of Court Place Farm.
