A DEDICATED volunteer has been recognised for his incredible service to schools cricket across the county.

Peter Tubb was presented with Oxfordshire Cricket’s lifetime achievement award at the stunning Wormsley Estate after the Under 13 Oxfordshire Schools Cricket Association (OSCA) cup final.

The volunteer has spearheaded the OSCA for more than 35 years, enabling thousands of children to play the game through league and cup fixtures.

Tubb collected the award from the Oxfordshire High Sherriff, Mark Beard and received a standing ovation from players, parents, officials and supporters.

In a statement, Oxfordshire Cricket said: “On behalf of Oxfordshire Cricket, all the schools, and with no doubt the countless amount of players who have taken part in fixtures over the years, we would like to thank him for his years of dedication, time and effort to schools cricket in Oxfordshire.”

The Warriner School, based in Bloxham, beat Burford School by nine wickets in the Under 13 cup final.

After winning the toss and electing to field, the north Oxfordshire outfit got off to a good start with Shiva Senthilkumar taking 2/7 off his four overs.

Will Rorich then took 3/8 to leave Burford 33/6, but Rufus Jones hit a steady 16 off 40 balls to push the score to 66/8 off their 20 overs.

Warriner’s reply suffered an early setback when Freddie Webb bowled Rorich, but Ben Miller hit an unbeaten 36 (26) to secure the trophy.

It was an all-Oxford affair in the Under 12 Bunbury Cup final as The Dragon School overcame Magdalen College School by 27 runs.

Dragon won the toss and elected to bat, but a slow start left them in a precarious position at 35/3.

Will Baker’s superb 54 off 46 balls and Ed Turner’s quickfire 25* (13) guided them to 162/7 off 25 overs.

Raffy Gibbons produced a steady 38 off 54 in response, with Nico Hartley’s 24 (36) keeping Magdalen in the chase.

But some tight overs in the middle of the innings by Ollie Evans and Cosmo Rowan-Hull led to a flurry of wickets, the duo ending with figures of 3/14 and

2/19 respectively to help secure victory for Dragon.

They will represent Oxfordshire in 2023 in the regional rounds of the National England Schools Cricket Association (ESCA) cup.
