OXFORD United are closing in on their second signing of the summer, says Karl Robinson.

The U’s kicked-off pre-season with a 5-2 win at Oxford City as every senior player except Alex Gorrin got a run out.

United have made a low-key start to the transfer window, with Ciaron Brown the only addition so far.

Speaking after the game at Court Place Farm, Robinson revealed talks with one transfer target have progressed as he looks to bolster his squad.

The head coach said: “I’ve had a bid accepted for the player, so we’re happy with that.

“We’ve got to wait for him to get one or two things sorted, I think we’ve agreed personal terms.

“But not until that player’s wearing a yellow shirt will I be able to say we’ve signed him.”

Last week, Robinson said United were ‘close’ to their second signing but had to wait for another country’s transfer window to reopen to complete the deal.

Former Coventry City winger Jodi Jones joined the club’s pre-season training camp in Spain and, like Gorrin, did not play on City’s artificial pitch due to a past knee injury.

The U’s are light in wide areas and Robinson knows he needs additions in several positions, with the opening game of the Sky Bet League One season just 26 days away.

He said: “We’re down the road with a few.

“We’re really happy with where we’re at, we’re not going to try too hard or push too soon because we know what could be available the longer this window unfolds.

“It’s important we get the right ones, not just to add to our numbers.

“We’ve got a good squad, we’ve got to make sure the ones that come in make this team better, not the squad better.

“We still need a holding midfield player, we still need three wingers, maybe a striker or a winger that can play as a striker.

“We’re all working hard behind the scenes to try to make sure we make ourselves really competitive.”
