OXFORD United have altered one of the pitches at their training ground this week, in order to replicate the size of the Wembley turf.

The U’s head to the national stadium in the Sky Bet League One play-off final, with the expectation that the game could be won or lost out wide.

United get joy in the final third through wingers Owen Dale and Josh Murphy, while Bolton Wanderers exploit the wide areas via the wing backs in their 3-1-4-2 formation.

U’s head coach Des Buckingham said: “We’ve marked one of the pitches here, so the blue lines are what our training pitch was, and the white lines are what the Wembley ones are.

“It was just to highlight the difference. Although it’s not massive, there is a difference both length and width wise.

“It just gives us an opportunity to work on a few things with the ball, when we know we’ll have a lot more space at Wembley, or whether it’s out of possession, where we really need to know when to press or when to sit in a block because of the space in behind and in front.”
