Wantage Tn 5 (Claydon 2, pen 35, Swann 5, Guy 63, 78) Newport IOW 0 RICHIE Claydon and substitute Richie Guy bagged a brace apiece as Wantage went nap against their visitors from the Isle of Wight in the preliminary round of the FA Cup on Saturday

Wantage were out of the blocks quickly, storming into a 2-0 lead within five minutes.

Claydon gave them the lead from a free kick on the edge of the box, before Gary Swann made it 2-0 when he headed past Sam Webb in the Newport goal.

Newport rallied on the half-hour, Charlie Smeeton rattling the Wantage bar, before keeper Darryl Simms kept out the rebound.

Wantage got a third when Claydon hammered home a penalty after a foul by keeper Webb.

In the second half, Simms denied Iain Seabrook, before sub Guy made it 4-0 with a cool finish from Claydon’s cross.

Guy claimed his second when he slipped his marker before firing into the corner to complete an excellent display.

Ringwood 1 (Franklin og 42) Abingdon Utd 3 (Franklin 1, Mills 30, Osbourne-Ricketts 40) ABINGDON eased through with victory at their Wessex League hosts.

Goals from Tom Franklin, John Mills and Elliott Osbourne-Ricketts saw Abingdon storm into a 3-0 lead.

Franklin fired them ahead, sweeping home a corner, before Mills hit No 2 with half-volley.

It was 3-0 when the Ringwood keeper allowed Osbourne-Ricketts’s free-kick to squirm through his grasp.

Ringwood got one back when a free-kick hit Franklin before going past keeper Jon Beames.

After the break, Abingdon had the chance to add to their tally, but were guilty of some poor finishing.
