OXFORD City ended the decade with a 2-1 defeat at Vanarama National League South promotion chasers Weymouth.

Former Oxford United striker Yemi Odubade put the hosts ahead midway through the second half, before Abdulai Baggie doubled the lead six minutes from time.

Reece Fleet’s long-range effort in the closing stages proved only a consolation, with City staying 13th in the table.

The home side had the best of the early exchanges, while Danny Rowe wasted an opportunity after receiving the ball in space on 16 minutes.

Brett Williams found the net for Weymouth two minutes later, but the forward was ruled to have committed a foul in the build-up.

Zac McEachran, fresh from scoring twice in the 3-2 win over Hungerford Town on Boxing Day, then saw his shot saved, before Kevin Berkoe produced a good block at the other end.

Joe Oastler also went close for City, but he just failed to connect with a corner.

An injury to referee Mark Whaley saw linesman Andy Merritt step in, causing nine minutes to be added on at the end of the half.

Kyran Wiltshire and Kyran Lofthouse, on for Rowe, went close after the break.

But Odubade broke the deadlock in the 70th minute, outmuscling Wiltshire before slotting the ball past Craig King.

Nana Owusu and AJ George were thrown on in search of an equaliser, but Baggie’s quality strike made the game safe six minutes from time, the winger picking up the ball near the halfway line and shooting into the top corner.

Fleet pulled a goal back in the 90th minute, but City could not force an equaliser.
