LUKE Carnell has joined North Leigh from Oxfordshire rivals Didcot Town.

The experienced centre back spent seven seasons with the Railwaymen and captained the side for much of that time, including during their run to the FA Cup first round in 2015/16.

Carnell has played Southern League football for more than a decade and Millers manager Craig Dore expects him to fit right in.

He said: “Luke will be a fantastic addition to the squad for next season.

“He’s someone I’ve had my eye on for a while for a lot of reasons.

“Week in, week out he lays everything on the line and he’s shown great leadership in the past.”

Carnell joins the BetVictor Southern League Division 1 Central outfit having also spent time at Banbury United and Abingdon United.

He renews his partnership with Adam Learoyd after the pair spent almost half a decade together at the heart of Didcot’s defence.

Meanwhile, Ty Lee will stay at Wantage Town for a third consecutive campaign.

He was one of just two players to remain with the Alfredians throughout last season.
