DIDCOT Town were unable to sign off with a victory in the final Southern League Division One Central fixture before lockdown.

The Railwaymen lost 3-0 at Daventry Town on the eve of new nationwide restrictions.

‘Non-elite’ competitions are suspended until at least early December as part of the rules which were voted in by parliament yesterday.

While several midweek fixtures were postponed in the circumstances, Didcot’s clash went ahead.

The hosts led on 17 minutes, when Luke Hayward turned Jack Bowen’s cross past goalkeeper Leigh Bedwell and into his own net.

Bowen scored the second seven minutes before the break from the penalty spot, after Luke Emery was brought down in the box.

Daventry were reduced to ten men shortly after the break when Jarvis Wilson collected his second booking of the night.

Didcot pressed for a way back into the game without any joy and Taylor Orosz went on to add a third goal for the home side.
