ED David has been elected Oxford University’s new skipper.

The 23-year-old succeeds Dom Waldouck with immediate effect, and the Dark Blues’ first game under his captaincy is against Bristol University on January 23.

David, who has previously been team secretary, will be hoping the side can build on December’s Varsity Match victory over Cambridge at Twickenham as he already begins his preparations for the 2019 fixture.

The winger missed last month’s win after dislocating his shoulder earlier in the season.

But David, who is a fifth year clinical medicine student at St Hilda’s College, has plenty of Varsity experience with three Blues under his belt, including a try in the 2016 defeat.

In his first year at Oxford, he also crossed for the Whippets and Under 21s during their triumphs over Cambridge.

The women’s team will elect their captain towards the end of the spring.
