DAN George knows Chinnor’s forwards will have to be at their best again when Cinderford visit Kingsey Road this weekend.

The Thame-based side are bidding to make it three wins in four games in 2020 and record the double over their Gloucestershire opponents.

Fourth-placed Chinnor come into the National League 1 clash following an impressive victory at Bishop’s Stortford last weekend.

Three of their four tries came from driving line-outs as they dominated the set piece, but head coach George knows more of the same will be required.

“It’s going to be a very physical game,” he said.“Cinderford are renowned for having a big physical pack and a dominant scrum.

“There’s going to be some big challenges this weekend, but the boys are really looking forward to it.”

George added: “I think it’s any forward coach’s dream to see a scrum penalty kicked to the corner and then a five-metre driving lineout to score.

“Nick Selway scored a hat-trick at the weekend all for, I think, a maximum of three metres of carry, but we set our stall – we wanted to go to Bishop’s Stortford and win the set piece.

“They throw it around and play a lot of good free-flowing rugby, but I felt the battle laid in the forwards as it does this week.

“We are expecting a different game from Cinderford, but no doubt the threats will be there.”

This weekend’s match is Chinnor’s first at home since their inaugural Friday night league game on January 10.

Despite the defeat to Rams that evening, the 1,020-strong crowd created an electric atmosphere and George is hoping for more of the same with a strong away contingent expected.

There will also be a second team fixture between Chinnor and Cinderford at 1pm, as well as the Vice President's lunch, so a feast of rugby is in store.

George said: “The atmosphere for the Rams game was exceptional, the best I have experienced at this level ever.

“It was unbelievable and it is a massive testament to the work the club are putting in, but also the people of Thame and Chinnor who came to watch the game, so hopefully we get another big crowd this weekend.

“It’s going to be a big one and a very interesting game.”

National League 2 South leaders Henley Hawks are hoping they return from their long trip to Redruth with a victory.

Luke Allen’s side travel to Cornwall in buoyant mood after last weekend’s win at Worthing, coupled with Tonbridge Juddians’ loss to Taunton Titans, sent them top of the table.

Allen names an unchanged XV, with George Wood replacing Jimmy Wright on the bench.

Witney are without a game in Southern Counties North this weekend, so Witney Angels’ ladies game against Cheltenham Civil Service has been moved to Saturday (2.15pm).
