NATIONAL League 1 side Rams have been deducted five points for supplying incorrect information over the payment of their players.

The Berkshire club are fourth in English rugby's third tier prior to the punishment, one point and one place behind Oxfordshire side Chinnor.

Chairman Andy Lynch explained in a statement that the judgement related to Rams mistakenly ticking the wrong box on a question via the RFU's Game Management System (GMS).

He said: "As this was the first case of its kind we have been made an example of how the RFU apply the regulations.

"Those of us who signed the inaccurate declaration and the executive as a whole deeply regret that our collective failing has led to this outcome for the club.

"The whole experience has been extremely stressful for everybody involved."

Lynch confirmed the club would not be lodging an appeal against the punishment, which also includes a 15-point deduction, suspended for two seasons.
