OXFORDSHIRE’S clubs will not be starting their 2020/21 campaigns next month.

The Rugby Football Union (RFU) confirmed the adult league season will not begin in September in its latest update on the community game.

The sport in England is still at stage B of the RFU’s roadmap towards the return of competitive rugby, which allows socially-distanced non-contact training in groups of up to six.

League matches will only return at stage F, which can only happen after at least four weeks at the penultimate step.

Provisional league fixtures starting next month have already been released, but these will now be altered.

The RFU’s update said: “Unless there is a dramatic improvement in the prevalence of the virus in the community, the next announcement about when league rugby will commence for these levels will be on September 1.

“The fixtures previously published will be amended at the earliest opportunity and this will be communicated to clubs.”
