JACOB Ham has added to Chinnor’s strength in depth at scrum half.

The 22-year-old will compete with Joe Pigott for the No 9 jersey when the National League 1 season begins.

Ham joins after graduating from Loughborough University, where he played for their student side.

He also has National League experience with Stourbridge and South Leicester.

The move came about through a link with Chinnor hooker Charley Robinson, who Ham had played with in Worcester Warriors’ academy.

Ham, pictured, said: “I actually went to Cheltenham Races just before lockdown for the Gold Cup and I bumped into Charley who told me Chinnor is a great club and he would put my name forward.”

He added: “It’s great to be here and I’m really enjoying my time at the club so far.”

Richard Thorpe, Chinnor’s director of rugby, said: “I have been impressed with Jacob so far during our pre-season sessions.

“As we now push into the next phase of our preparations – and with the further easing of our training restrictions – I am excited to see him step up to controlling our games at 9, and directing our forward pack.”
