ALFIE Barbeary was hailed as the 'real deal' by an All Black after yet another eye-catching performance for Wasps.

The former Banbury Bulls youngster scored two tries in a man-of-the-match display as he helped his side to a 33-14 Champions Cup victory over Montpellier.

The 20-year-old, who grew up in Deddington, broke through as a hooker but dominated the Pool A clash from Number 8.

His performance drew rave reviews from teammate Lima Sopoaga, who won 18 caps for New Zealand between 2015 and 2017.

The 29-year-old tweeted: "Two years ago one of our coaches said to me he was the most talented kid he'd ever seen play the game.

"I thought that was a big call.

"Now I know why he made that comment. Kid is the real deal."

Wasps' win will also be remembered fondly by ex-Abingdon School pupil, Charlie Atkinson.

The 19-year-old scored his first try for the club after starting at fly-half and impressing throughout.

But once again Barbeary grabbed the headlines as he continued an astonishing first professional season, which has already included his first England call-up.
